Rest between shiftsRegulation 10

11 consecutive hours between working days, 12 for under-18s.

Every gap is measured, Sunday into Monday included. A short one is an error, and the generator never creates one.

Weekly restRegulation 11

24 uninterrupted hours every 7 days, or 48 hours across 14.

Checked over fixed fortnights from your first rota. A rest between 24 and 35 hours is a warning, since the shorter one needs a reason.

The 48-hour averageRegulation 4

No more than 48 hours a week, averaged over 17 weeks.

Averaged from approved timesheets, skipping weeks with recorded leave. The error says how many hours would bring it back down.

The opt-outRegulation 5

A worker can agree in writing to work more than 48 hours. Never an under-18.

Tick it on their record and the average check steps aside for them. Every other check still applies.

Night workRegulation 6

A night worker's normal hours average no more than 8 in 24. It can't be opted out of.

Night workers are found automatically: anyone with 3+ hours between 11pm and 6am in at least 50% of recent shifts.

Under-18sRegulations 5A and 6A

8 hours a day and 40 a week, 48 hours' weekly rest, and no work between midnight and 4am.

Worked out day by day from their date of birth, so the limits lift on their 18th birthday. Late shifts get a warning to check the hospitality exception.

Rest breaksRegulation 12

20 minutes when working more than 6 hours; 30 after 4.5 for under-18s.

A reminder on any day long enough to need one that has no gap for it.

Minimum wageNational Minimum Wage Act 1998

At least the rate for the worker's age band.

Each hourly rate is checked against the band for that person's age, on their record and in the payroll export.

Built inside the limits

Capped before it starts

Anyone close to an average gets a lower ceiling for the week, so the generator doesn't build the breach in.

Never bent to fill a gap

If nobody can legally take a shift, it stays empty and the issue says why.

Kept for the record

Rotas, timesheets and clock-ins are kept for as long as you're a customer, covering the two years the regulations expect.
